Mr. William Douglas Thompson, 74, of Richmond, passed away on Monday Morning, September 23, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Thompson was born on March 14, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, and was the son of the late Vencin and Della Owens Thompson. His family moved to Harlan, Kentucky and later to Knoxville, Tennessee where he graduated from Fulton High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He furthered his education at The University of Connecticut. From 1964 to 2000 he worked at the Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, where he retired as Director of Human Resources.
In 2014, Mr. Thompson moved to Richmond, Kentucky where he could be closer to his family. Since that time he has been a resident of The St. Andrews Retirement Community, and has been involved in civic and community affairs. He was an active member of The Richmond Area Arts Council Advisory Board, The Richmond Lions Club and was a member of the Board of Directors of The McCready-Telford Foundation.
Survivors include his brother: Vencin Thompson (Carmen) of Frankfort; his sister-in-law: Anne Thompson of Richmond as well as several nieces and nephews including his niece, Stephanie Cobb (Tim) of Richmond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Ted Thompson and a sister: Bobbie Frances Thompson.
At the request of the family, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, Kentucky 40403 or The McCready-Telford Foundation, 300 Stocker Drive, Richmond, Kentucky 40475.
