Obituary for Jeptha Fortney

Mr. Jeptha Fortney, 95, the husband of Jean Harris Fortney, passed away, Tuesday evening, March 10, 2020, at Baptist Health-Richmond.
Mr. Fortney, the son of the late Charles and Fannie Calloway Fortney, was born in Madison County, Kentucky on October 6, 1924. Jep served in The United States Army during World War II. Following his military service, he was employed at The Blue Grass Army Depot where he retired as a trucking supervisor. In addition he was a farmer. He loved working and enjoying all of God’s creation. He and his wife Jean loved to travel on the farm tours sponsored by the Madison County Extension Service.
He was a member of the Union City Christian Church. There he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was also a former Sunday School Superintendant. He had been a member of the former J.D. Hamilton Masonic Lodge at Union City.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Jean; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Charles Fortney Jr., Grant Fortney, his twin brother, Jasper Fortney and Bobby Fortney and two sisters: Evelyn Azbill and Dorothy Marcum.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 14, 2020 at The Union City Christian Church, 2473 Union City Road, with Bro. Chip Denief and Bro. Larry Oetzel officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday evening at the church.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: William Haden Harris, Wayne S. Long, Gene Harris, Michael Fortney, Billy Breeding and Bobby Noe.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Stewart, Robert Murphy and The Deacons and Elders of The Union City Christian Church.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the building fund of Union City Christian Church, 2473 Union City Road, Richmond, Kentucky 40475.
The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
